今はハングルを勉強しています。。あ~は。。は
So, basicly it shouldn't be that much of a surprise! I signed up on a preffered language exchange website about a week ago. I have done this before on another website and made my friend まい from 岡山 but never got any other replies for a language partner. The website was safe and it was alright, but of course I wished to get other replies too (although まい is rather smart because of her taste in favorite 東方神起 member!)
So, I was reading through this Japanese language blog and applied on this website. It's very safe, no video chat is offered and I researched it to see what other people thought. Being as I didn't have a payed membership though, I could only put out a small little profile of myself asking for language partners. They ask you your email address although it is not displayed, and what languages you are practicing. Naturally, I put Japanese and also included Korean too. I stressed that I wanted to learn Japanese though and that I really knew absolutely no Korean.
Well...a week later now...I got a reply from someone in South Korea! I was surprised, very surprised actually. We spoke very briefly on skype, which I was weary about, as you can imagine. But, he is very nice and we have arranged times to practice Korean! Although I rather be studying Japanese, it is still a really great opportunity.
So, last night was the first lesson and I confused the poor guy! Somehow, we both managed to misscomunicate the times that we were supposed to begin the lessons at. Real nice right? (haha) So in the end he said that we could still practice for about an hour. Today the lessons are at 17.00, my time, so hopefully there will be no misunderstandings. My time on skype was somehow off and I think I have changed it now.
The first lessons consisted of two questions from him, for English and then me, basicly asking how to pronounce things. We began with a general conversation of studying, Korea, and goals. He lives in Seoul, I asked regardless and he was speaking on the seasons there. He suggested to visit during Spring, which he feels is the perfect Korean weather. Surprisingly enough, he knew where in the states that I lived when I mentioned it! Nice geography ne. I was surprised and he just said that that kind of weather sounds lovely. (I don't think so)
But, another funny topic came out.
"Do you like swimming? I like summer sports, swimming so that weather would be nice."
"Yeah, sometimes but maybe not at the beaches here..because there are a lot of sharks."
He started laughing like "oh yeah yeah, maybe not then." (haha)
The whole lesson was interesting though after the small talk, because that helped to make things comfortable, you know? But, another highlight was when we briefly spoke of music. He asked me:
"Who is your favorite Korean band?"
"Dong Bang Shin Ki."
"Ahh of course! Teenagers."
haha~ Made me laugh.
He said my pronounciation was good for a foreigner and lectured me to learn the "Hangul" so that is what I am doing now. The whole point of the blog! (ha) I didn't think I would be studying Korean but it seems like he will be a good language partner that I could stick with to learn Korean. My desire to study Japanese is still very strong so while I practice my hangul I am going to continue studying Japanese and probably try to study the writing more. I am trying to associate Korean words with Japanese (which was also recommended by that blog). It was something like, "you can't associate two different languages with the same base language because it gets confusing"
So, instead of thinking: "다시 한번 말씀해 주세요/Dasi han beon malseumhae juseyo" is "Please say it one more time" I will think of "もういちどいってください"
And instead of "감사합니다/kamsahmnida" for "Thank you" I will think of "有難う/ありがとうございます"
I could have also thought in Spanish as well, just the point is to associate with a different language. He specifically told me that it would be much easier if I learned the "hangul" for himself to teach me.
And within a year he said "maybe we will be better people and you will know a lot more Korean with hard studying."
Ah, I hope so, because right now I know absolutely nothing. It should be interesting though. This is a good thing though and I feel very happy.
I have three or four things I want to study now though. I need to finish that assignment, study Korean, study Japanese and also begin looking over my SAT prep book. Today I hope to atleast do the first three. I like all of this studying though, it is nice.
What's better than everything though is...Shou is coming here on Friday! I am so excited, very excited. I want to spend so much time with her.
がんばれましょう! (^^;)

So, you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
You learn that you really can endure,
that you really are strong, and you really do have worth.
You learn and learn, with every goodbye you learn.
Scream your name
Your thoughts, and your cries. Be nice.
Tagboard here, I like shoutmix.com. It can be 100% in width, the height you can put it as whatever. Best if the style is "wide"
