Job Shadowing

My day began really early this morning. At 5.00am my mom woke me up to get ready to take her to work. I got dressed quickly and it took longer than expected as we waited for her some other employees to come pick her up.

By then it was nearly 7.00am and I swung by to get an iced coffe.

I grabbed the coffee and my sister wanted me to take her to school. I had about an hour of time to myself before I had to leave for the middle school. This morning went by like lightening, it was so quick. I dropped off my sister and began headed for the school. At first I got lost (haha) but then retraced my steps and everything was alright. Even getting a little lost, I still arrived earlier than expected by about 20 minutes.
I met my mentor a little after 9.20am. For the first thirty minutes while I was there we went over about twenty questions I had for her. It was hardly any time for me to get a really good opinion about her. She is really compassionate and truly loves her students. She is so constantly busy with the school and tries really hard to make connection with the ESOL students. By the way, that is who I was observing today, an ESOL teacher.

I stayed for her first three classes, she has four with about seven to eight students in each class. Most students were directly from another country, such as one student who had only moved from Venezuela a month ago. It was really interesting and all of the students were incredibly diverse. Some spoke and understood English very well, others didn't know more than a few words.
It was almost like being in my Spanish class. Some of the strategies she used were very similiar to how my teacher teaches us Spanish. She would speak in English and then recap in Spanish. Using discretion but as not to embarrass her students, she would correct their pronounciation while they read.
The first class was 7th grade then there was a break. We spoke some more and went over the questions until they were finished. Like I said, her job is very interesting and she had some really touching stories about some of the less fortunate children she works with.
The rest of the day consisted of two more classes and a break for lunch. I got a chance to interact with the students and practice my spanish listening skills. I followed what she was saying and it made connecting with the students easier too though I didn't speak to them in Spanish. I spoke to one girl about highschool and got such an impression...
It was eventually time to leave and I was ready for it but very very grateful. I know I will job shadow her again in February when the time comes around. I thanked her profusely and I'll send the thank you letter very soon. I feel a strong desire to do this kind of work and today only made that stronger.
I made a wrong turn on the way home but recovered quickly (laugh) I knew I had made a wrong turn the second I did it. I got home by 14.00am. Picked up my sister at 14.45 and then met Wrenn right after at McDonald's. We spoke until about 16.00 or so. Then I came home and had to take my sister to school at 15.00. My mother also wanted me to go get Lotto Tickets and put gas in the car.
By this time I felt pretty exhuasted to be honest (haha) I dropped my sister off, got the Lotto tickets, came home and began doing some Spanish homework at 17.30. At 18.30 I had to pick my sister back up and now I am finally taking a little break from everything.
The day was so incredibly busy and it wont end yet. I have a lot of homework and studying to do tonight. I need to push myself to get it all done. I really need to find an energy supplement though (haha)
Today was productive. I'd try job shadowing for classes any day (haha)
